FIT, the Tech Talent Pipeline, was established in 1999, and is dedicated to addressing the skills requirements of Ireland’s increasingly digitalised economy. Promoting inclusion and diversity, FIT strives to demonstrate that wider access to tech skills training leads to exciting career paths and quality employment opportunities for all those who have a curiosity and passion for technology.
In this article, FIT writes about their new programme Cuimsiú, which means inclusion. The Cuimsiú Programme is an initiative set up by them to support neurodivergent and disabled people on a path to tech employment that works for them. The programme is funded by Pobal under the WorkAbility: Inclusive Pathways to Employment Programme, which is co-funded by the EU and the Irish Government.
The programme provides participants with an opportunity to build tech skills; to take part in online and in person training to prepare them for the workplace; and receive one to one support from their Employability Mentors. Participants will have full access to FIT's training platforms and the opportunity to network with employers throughout the year.
A potential participant does not require a diagnosis to take part in the Cuimsiú Programme, but they must be aged at least sixteen years. The programme is free of charge, but all participants must fill out a registration form, which is required by the Programme’s funders.
The engagement of employers is key to a programme like Cuimsiú. Through this programme employers will be offered an opportunity to join FIT’s Cuimsiú Employer Network. It is envisaged that this networking will facilitate employers to learn more about inclusive practices, collaborate and meet potential candidates. A suite of free online and in person training will be rolled out year-round to support employers’ own efforts in creating inclusive workplaces. And participating employers will be able to access resources and support from the Cuimsiú Team.
